Well, I did this in Illustrator because I thinks is defenitly easier and better to create exact patterns and nets there, much more than in PS. I belive there are two way: you may release them as Illust. patterns and then expand it, so you can give it the angle you want, or you may also use snap to point feature and build it step by step (with the repeat action shortcut).
I actually used both Illust. and Photoshop. Hope my explanation'll help.
And Yeah it is defenitly easier to work on this sort of stuff in illustrator much more control.
